First published in 1937, Turabian's manual has been updated to reflect the fifteenth edition of The Chicago Manual of Style (2003) as well as the habits and needs of today's students. The chapter on source citation now includes sections on online databases, e-books, and "informally published electonic sources." A new and lengthy part 1, "Researching and Writing: From Planning to Production," cautions researchers to "beware of Wikipedia" and "never cite it as an authoritative source." 8th edition is legit!!

I upgraded to the 8th edition after my 7th edition was completely worn out- too much use. The 8th is more concise and easy to use as well as includes more citation information for electronic sources, etc.

you'd best get the book

This falls into the category of "if you must you must." I've written many papers in APA, and if you have as well, Turabian format will have very strange differences that make no sense what-so-ever. Still, if you must use Turabian, you'd best get the book. I found APA easy to figure out to the point that I never cracked the book, so I figured Turabian would be the same way. I was wrong and have been dinged a lot for it. Do not let yourself believe you do not need this book because APA was easy. Turabian is not easy. It is confusing. And the websites on it are not helpful. Buy the book.

I bought this book because I was supposed to use it for a class. At the same time, I don't feel like it provided me with any useful tips about how to be a better writer. The problem I had with the book is that it was too impersonal. It would have been better to have a more informal book that would tell you more directly the kinds of things you can do to improve thesis writing The book also contains ridiculous numbers of examples for how to cite sources. At the end of the day, I couldn't even easily figure out how to cite anything.
