Adequate, but no answer key available

I am self-learning Korean, and while the Integrated Korean Beginning I textbook is pretty good, this accompanying workbook has proven to be a huge disappointment, for two reasons:

1. About half of the exercises rely on listening to the accompanying audio files. In theory, this is great for learning pronunciation, especially for those of us who don't have an instructor. Unfortunately, the gap between spoken items is often too short for a beginning student to process the words and write an answer. I frequently have to pause and rewind the audio file. Also, the files themselves are somewhat cryptically-named, and in at least one case, incorrectly labeled altogether.

2. More importantly, there's no way to check answers. I can understand why the publisher might not make these available to the public (Korean instructors may want to use the workbook as homework or quiz material), but for those of us who are learning on our own, this is supremely frustrating. I've actually stopped using the workbook because I'm afraid that the inability to check my work may be teaching me bad habits.

I tried to use the E-mail form on the publisher's website to ask about an answer key, but two weeks later I still haven't received a response.

The exercise material in this workbook seems like it would be quite useful if there were a way to check your work. Hopefully the publisher will realize that not all of its customers are college students and will offer a way for independent students to grade their own work.

Pretty standard workbook

I can't believe this was used for a beginning Korean class. The book is great but it should be for intermediate level Korean. Even as a Korean speaker I find this book challenging for a beginner's class.

Other than that, this book is straightforward and helpful. Lots of repetitive writing and eventually goes into sentences and answering questions.

Bought this for an upcoming review class. Having done Korean for years, it is not challenging at all but would be good for beginners. Price is nice for a textbook!

Great book!

It is a great book for those who want to get an introduction on what it is McKinsey & Co. The book describe Marvin Bower's work throughout his life to build the greatest consulting firm in the world. The values, ethics and way of thinking for a firm that was thought to last for ever as a leader in the world. Great book.

A Fascinating, Uplifting and Very Useful Book

This is a truly outstanding book. It is very well-written and thoroughly presents the principles and experiences that made Marvin Bower one of the giants of management consulting. Even with 30 years experience in management consulting, I learned a great deal about client relationships and other aspects of consulting. Marvin Bower was truly a remarkable leader. For skills and ethics in management consulting, he rates at the top.
The only negative about the book is that it's not balanced. No one is perfect- not even Mr. Bower or McKinsey- as the author might have you believe. And I don't think Mr. Bower was quite the non-autocratic and non-hierarchical leader as the author and others have asserted. Firing a partner because he was doing work for one client that didn't deal with "major problems;" firing an associate and ordering him to leave the firm and building in 30 minutes for a lapse in judgement (albeit a significant one); and putting the fear of God in associates if they were seen having a social rather than a business lunch or if they wore argyle socks sounds pretty autocratic to me. Even if he encouraged dissent in staff discussions.
Also, I don't agree that Mr. Bower was the founder of professional management consulting. I believe Ed Booz of Booz, Allen and Hamilton was. Of course, as a former Booz Allen partner, I may be biased.
Notwithstanding the above criticisms, this is one of the best books I've ever read.

Strong Entry within French Medieval History

This edited volume by David Potter is part of the larger, six-volume set, The Short Oxford History of France." This particular volume consists of eight monographs by French and British historians covering the High and Late Medieval Period of France, and focuses on political and economic themes, particularly as regards the impact of war and monarchical evolution on the French state. The book is written to a scholarly audience, but is certainly accessible to most any reader due to its clear writing style. Although topical coverage is very good for the focus which the book takes, this is not the volume to consider if you are looking for information on the birth of the University or the emergence of Gothic architecture, both major themes within France for the period. (For those, see A History of the University in Europe: Volume 1, Universities in the Middle Ages and Gothic Architecture (The Yale University Press Pelican History of Art), which cover these topics admirably.) But if you are interested in the royal demesne, the Hundred Years War, the Valois or the noblesse of the period, this book is probably one of the best places to start. Highly recommended.

Of further note...
I can't help but comment on two other factors which make this, as well as other volumes in the Short Oxford History of France series, standouts worth of consideration. The first is that, unlike many books of its kind, this volume contains substantial back matter to support the text. There is a short dictionary of terms, numerous (!) maps, multiple genealogical charts, an abbreviated chronology, and, of course, a highly detailed bibliography (with recommendations for further reading). Every book like this should have these aids, but many do not, and their inclusion here only strengthens an already excellent work. In addition, and this is no small matter, the type font, print, and paper quality all add to make books in this series eminently readable. As you know from your own interaction with books, attention to detail like this can make the difference between a good and a challenging reading task. Kudos to Oxford for such a great job here (but head-scratching as to why they did not emply the same techniques to the development of their series "Great Medieval Thinkers" (compare Hugh of Saint Victor (Great Medieval Thinkers)) which, while containing superb content, is incredibly difficult to read due to extremely small and thin print. I still recommend these excellent volumes due to their superb content, but why couldn't Oxford treat their reproduction in the same manner than they did here with the Short Oxford History of France?

Riddled with spelling mistakes

I give this one star because you can't give it 0 stars.
Given that PRINCE 2 has such a huge focus on quality you think the author would have bothered to use spell check as a quality check of his own work.
I won't even bother commenting on the grammar.
Looks like he is just out for a quick buck (he got ten of mine). My advice would be to look else where. I recommend PRINCE2 for Dummies as a much better option.

Well structured ideas, a great help for the exam

The book is a very good summary of the Prince2 main ideas. It's a book that is most efficient to use after reading the standard Prince2 material - the author structures very well the things needed to be remembered for the exam.

Definately for beginners.

First off, this IS just like the back of the book says, "Level: Introductory to Intermediate." From the first chapter to the last, old style console words like ReadLn and WriteLn are used and bring back old memories, as the source code is all in console mode. No Windows programs here, but if you are in need of learning just what it says "Learn Object Pascal with Delphi" then that's exactly what you get. The companion CD has Delphi5 Standard version and all of the books source code.
There is only one chapter devoted to Objects and that I find fault with. It is called "Introduction to Object Oriented Programming with Object Pascal." In my opinion there should be more on this subject, but like the book title says, "Object Pascal" should be taken quite literally. This chapter is also done in console mode code.
I would have liked this book to have at least gone towards program code being in the Windows environment towards the middle to end. The many other code learning books I own start out teaching in console mode, then progress to using Windows for what it really is for. This book does not do that, it just stays in console mode start to end.
If you need to learn Object Pascal and have little to no experience in programming, then this book is excellent for you.

Excellent primer for OOP in Delphi

Most Delphi books cover the language well, but focus a lot on the IDE and windowing/display stuff.

Not so much with this book, it gets down to the nitty gritty with the code and shows you how to do OOP right with Delphi. No windows stuff here, it's from the prompt. But it provides you with skills you can definitely take to windows.

Who this book is good for:

Beginners to Delphi or programming who want to get started.
Delphi programmers who want to do more OOP.
Delphi programmers who want to write better code.

It's a great tool to have in your arsenal.

Another poor book by a poor author.

To give this book even one star is being too generous. This is the second book from this author that I purchased. The first was "The Tomes of Delphi Win32 Database Developer's Guide" it was bad and this one is even worse. I vow never to buy another book by this author. He seems to think that just mentioning a topic is adequate coverage. His sample code is incomplete and misleading and the Quick Check sections often present review questions that don't relate to the section just covered. This book is obviously written by an author who is not an expert in the topic he is writing about. Other books that cover this topic better are "Mastering Delphi 5", "Delphi 5 Developer's Guide", and "Teach Yourself Delphi 4". The publisher is doing us all a disservice by publishing this guy's books.
