About the Author

David Planchard is the founder of D&M Education LLC. Before starting D&M Education, he spent over 27 years in industry and academia holding various engineering, marketing, and teaching positions. He holds five U.S. patents. He has published and authored numerous papers on Machine Design, Product Design, Mechanics of Materials, and Solid Modeling. He is an active member of the SOLIDWORKS Users Group and the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). David holds a BSME, MSM with the following professional certifications: CCAI, CCNP, CSDA, CSWSA-FEA, CSWP, CSWP-DRWT and SOLIDWORKS Accredited Educator. David is a SOLIDWORKS Solution Partner, an Adjunct Faculty member and the SAE advisor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the Mechanical Engineering department. In 2012, David s senior Major Qualifying Project team (senior capstone) won first place in the Mechanical Engineering department at WPI. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, David s senior Major Qualifying Project team won the Provost award in Mechanical Engineering for design excellence.

"I met that dude. . . in Kenya."

This is a well-written book of Dr. Clarke's experiences in Uganda. I became interested in this subject after meeting a very special young Ugandan who explained to me the needs required in her country. She hopes to follow his example and create special opportunities in her home country. When I showed her the book, she said, "Oh I've met that dude -- I met him in a dance club in Kenya." I'm so glad that, with all the work he's done in Uganda, Dr. Clarke finds some down time to mingle and socialize with locals.

Required reading

My wife and I were so impressed after reading this book that we sought our Dr. Clarke and toured his hospital when we were in Kampala. This should be required reading for anyone interested in doing humanitarian work in the developing world. His realistic assessment of problems/obstacles is coupled with determination and the long-term vision that is required to make meaningful change.

I appreciate this book very much!!

I just bought this for my Kindle, and I have Eddie's first book, which I will re-read soon, as well. When the student is ready ... I felt that with all that I had why do I need something else. I have met the statements of many lottery jackpot winners, there are numerous stories where people prayed and won a lottery, of varying amounts, that literally saved them at the last minute from losing homes. Some stories go into a thought process, but most you simply glean. What is very common with many jackpot winners and others, is that they use quickpicks and they're not big lottery spenders -- it's affirmations, visualizations (together or not) with a lot of faith and trust.

This book has shown me, through these experiences, where I still need work in my overall transformation, and the amazing amount of what I am doing that is in line with manifesting great things that I desire and require, and that I totally deserve. I really appreciated the second story, because this is someone who manifested good while the outer appearance and circumstances was definitely difficult. Walking "by faith and not by sight" is, I feel, the most difficult part and the second part is dealing with negative people -- the worst of which can be those closest to you, especially if they are part of the religion you grew up with, and you made the mistake of discussing stuff with them. I got called a liar and a heretic and everything in-between by someone I love. Lesson learned -- and you'll hear Eddie tell you this -- zip your lips. I truly feel I was led to this book today, after listening to Eddie speak on YouTube and not even knowing that this second book existed, and I've been going through thoughts of discouragement, and what I had wasn't enough at the moment.. So this has helped me immensely. I could even tell by reading the one story the exact books Melissa must have read, because I recognized her wonderful affirmations. About four months ago I, too, started writing affirmations and statements down -- just seemed a natural thing.

So, in short this book gave me encouragement and a big boost -- and that, my friend, is gold!

The greatest "down to earth" book on LAO

This is the greatest "practical" book on LOA that I have read so far, so thank you Eddie for sharing with us the real techniques behind LAO. It is easy to get lost in all the books that explains how you should think and act, but the fact is that in the end of the day you give up because you feel that LAO doesn't work for you, This book explains, with examples about real people who successfully applied LAO in their lives, that LAO works for everyone as long as you are serious and consistent about it, and if you really believe and apply in your daily life positive thinking and gratitude. And that even if it takes time to manifest, you just have to be persistent, keep believing and trust yourself. Great...just by reading all the stories in the book I got greater confidence that LAO really works. Thank you again for this great book, the work you have put in it and that you share it with all of us.

Another Winner from Eddie Coronado

This is another helpful book from author and lottery winner Eddie Coronado.

I've been following the suggestions I gleaned from his first book for about 5 months and this stuff REALLY WORKS if you are consistent in your efforts. I have had more opportunities of various kinds come my way in the past few months, than I have in a LONG time, before that. This also includes winning consistently more $$ on tickets I've bought and other prizes too.

If you are in need of some encouragement or direction how to make the LOA really work in your own life, this is definitely a worthwhile book to check out.

I'm taking off 1 star as I would have enjoyed reading a few more true life examples of lottery winners, being included. I did enjoy Eddie's first book more as it's very in-depth and I continue to re-read parts of it, when I'm in need of a "boost" to keep myself on track with affirmations, visualizations etc...both books are well worth the small amount that the eBooks cost and the rewards can be huge and long-term too!

Very Bias Text

I was looking for a text for a Contemporary Social Issues course I teach. This book is very bias and therefore I will not be using it. I would rather teach in a way which challenges students to critically think through social issues instead of presenting one side as positive and misrepresenting the other side.

An Excellent first text on Sociology

Watching the news, either local or national gives us at lest some incite into scores of problems facing us today. These vary from organized rebellions, often religious based between Christians and Muslims, but others based on race, poverty, drugs or a long list of other potential problems. In fact, this book discusses sixteen major problem areas. It discusses the problem, then tries to give an analysis of these problems that reflects the latest sociological research and insight to help understand these problems more fully. In general the book is free of popular stereotypes, and uses an interesting format of straight text with separate boxes of further explanation usually by examples. It is serious about presenting alternative views on the problem areas, usually pointing out the differences in the so called liberal or conservative views of the two wings of current political thought.

The text of the book is written in a lively, simple and straight forward writing style that is free of of the staid sentences that all to often fill textbooks. It further brings in commentary from around the world on many of these problems to show that American experience is not universal.

All in all, this book is an excellent starting point for the student taking his first course in the area. Once again, the writing style is so good that some students will read beyond to-days assignment. Well, that is a hope anyway. It would be interesting to know how many people buy or get a copy out of the library for their own reading.

just plain terrible!

It takes a lot for me to get a 1-star review. But this book is beyond inaccurate, extremely biased (and I don't even disagree with its views) and overall a bad read. Teacher relied heavily on it, and it didn't help. It made statements that are clearly contradicted by data and other studies. It selectively chooses what data to look at.

Inspirational for budding entrepreneurs

As a founder of a social and environmental think-tank, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to my colleagues in the world who would like to start up something that makes the world a better place. Everytime I open the book, my mind starts to spin and my heart beats faster as I get inspired by the many stories and examples Richard gave. I have learned, for example, about Skoll Foundation and his Participant Media, or about Re*Generation (youth homelessness), or about the Elders.
Caveat: this is not a social science book, so those of you who expect a rigorous treatment (with data and formulae) will not find your rigorous evidence here. If, however, you read it to find ideas and inspirations to better this world we live in, then I recommend you buy this book right away. Simply the most valuable book I have ever bought and read.

The Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 has long been forgotten by most people. Was it obliterated by a carpet bombing inflicted by the German Condor Legion as the Basques insist or torched by the Basques themselves who allegedly sought to throw the blame upon their Spanish Nationalist opponents? Although the destruction of Guernica occurred 78 years ago the incident still resonates throughout the Basque country. For Basques, Guernica is the wound in the heart that still separates them from their fellow countrymen who control Spain’s fortunes from Madrid. But for those who know little or nothing about the event, it is Pablo Picasso’s masterpiece they think of when Guernica is mentioned. His austere, black and grey painting has become the celebrated indictment of modern warfare, especially the bombing of civilian centers. As such, a copy of the painting guards the entrance to the United Nation’s Security Council chamber. Guernica was the first European town thoroughly leveled by incendiary and high explosive bombs which pointed the way to the frightful bombings of Warsaw, Rotterdam, Coventry, Hamburg, Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki during World War II. Guernica reminds us of the devastating potential of modern air power, which like Damocles’ sword still hangs ominously over a troubled and anxious world.

About the Author
Winston Carter received his MA in History from the University of California at Berkeley and studied Spanish civilization at the universities of Madrid and Valencia. Subsequently, he taught History part time at Santa Rosa and Chabot community colleges in California and Western Washington University. He spent most of his academic career teaching Government and World and U.S. History with the Department of Defense’s overseas schools in Vicenza, Italy and N�rnberg and Frankfurt, Germany.

Complicated Plot...Compelling Characters...Satisfying Conclusion

I have been looking forward to this book since reading Kieran Shields' terrific debut novel, The Truth of All Things, early last year. That book introduced the two main characters - Perceval Grey and Archie Lean - and several others, including the villain Jotham Marsh. I truly enjoyed the story of "Truth" while being ontroduced to the characters...the story in "Study/Revenge" was more complicated and - frankly - convoluted than "Truth," but the characters and their devlopment are absolutely wonderful. The start - perhaps the first 10% - was VERY promising, with a couple of Portland's criminals either found dead or seen plunging to death...even better, as Lean investigates, he notes fear among the rest of the city's criminal class that they may be subject to the same fate. Then, it drags until about halfway, as a host of other plot lines are introduced, a bit too many (especially when compared to the mor "tightly" writen "Truth"), but that's just my opinion. But here's the thing: the last 1/3 to 1/2 of the book is absolutely thrilling - and smart - and the seemingly unrelated and disparate threads do come together. The author does a great favor to those who invested their time and mind and emotions into the debut novel. I do look forward to #3.

An Intelligent Historical Fiction Mystery!

Synopsis: A thief is murdered in a really unpleasant way with symbols from the occult close to his body. Problem is, Deputy Archie Lean witnessed this thief being buried 2 days earlier. Meanwhile, criminologist Percival Grey is helping a dying wealthy tycoon who is desperately attempting to locate a stolen artifact and if Mr. Grey could happen to find his missing granddaughter who is probably attached to the artifact that would just be spectacular.

My rating: 4.5 Stars

My opinion: I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when I find intelligently written historical fiction mysteries. This book is a prime example! This book was beautifully laid out in its' mystery storyline divulging just enough to keep its' readers "whistle whet" while telling a very different type of mystery than your typical historical mysteries, which tend to bore me to tears at this point!

His characters were approachable and well thought out. What I loved most about the characters is that the author was dynamic in interjecting just enough humor into their "lines" which is a must in a book to suck me in. They had what another reviewer called "snarkiness" and I love that.

Stand Alone or Part of a Series: Part of series. I must say that normally I am pretty compulsive about reading series in order, but this one stood fine on its' own. Although I will be going back immediately and reading the first in series and then stalking to see new releases. So, thank you to Mr. Shields and Crown Publishing Group for giving me yet ANOTHER series to read! ; )

Review:

"A Study in Revenge" by Kieran Shields was a good mystery, historical,thriller series. I have not read the first book 'The Truth of all Things' and maybe that was why I didn't understand some parts of this novel but what I could understand ....I did like. I had a feeling I was still missing something that had gone on in the first novel...but again it was a very intriguing historical read...Sort of like the 'Sherlock Holmes' novels. This story setting was from Portland, Maine in the year of 1893. In this novel we have a 'Victorian' private investiagator and police consultant... Perceval Grey and we have Archie Lean who is a dedicated 'Deputy of Police'...dedicated to the State and its people. Grey and Lean come together trying to unravel a mystery and that is:

"The body of a local thief is discovered under unusual circumstances, with evidence of the occult (or at least somebody trying to stage it to look that way). The problem is, the thief in question was killed days earlier and was already buried, meaning that whoever staged the scene also robbed his grave."

Be ready for a lots of twist and turns...keep up or you could get lost...also be ready for "Viking runes, explosions, the occult, mysterious tunnels, robberies, shootings, burnings, and grave robbing, just to name some." It will be a long read but if you continue to will find out what the 'Revenge" was in the story! I will stop there to say you must pick up " Study in Revenge" to see what all the author had instore for the reader. The characters all well developed and the author did some job working all this in with some some religion and along with the murders that will tie in three different mysteries.

If you are in for a historical thriller mystery "A Study in Revenge" would be a good read that I would recommend for you
