Excellent - deserves nobel price -Must read for consultants

This book is a must read for any strategy consultant and any investment banker. It offers empiric data on concentration processes in the European Banking Sector, and their roots.
It analyzes the data using advanced stochastic tests.
It benchmarks them with those concentration processes, which would have occured, if Gibrats "Law of proportionate Effect" had occured. Moreover, it offers the most complete bibliography on concentration processes in the banking industry.
Note to the authors: Your second edtion should say a bit more about the effect of IT on banking. You did complain "that there are no publications on the effect IT on banking." Indent the data
from "The Banking Revolution - IT in Banking - salavation or slaughter ?" , published in late 1997 by Carrington,Langguth, Steiner from Mitchel Madison Group. If you do so, your book is perfect.

Close, but not completely accurrate

Sharon worked with my mother and their group of friends always got together for events and to just hang out on weekends and holidays. As the kids, we often spent the night together and did extra curricular activities like skating bowling and going to the movies together. When I look back, I realize that we never went to Sarah's house, but she was always with us. Many times, one parent would keep all of the kids and allow the other parents time to themselves. To be completely honest, I always thought Sarah was spoiled as a child. She got alot of things like being allowed to go to Six Flags and movies in the middle of the week. Just weird things that my own mother would tell me I couldn't do on school days. However, Sharon was and is a very gentle, loving mother. I am willing to say that looking back, though she was terrified of this psycho man she was married to and kept her mouth shut about what was happening, I do believe that she sheltered Sarah and made sure that she was with friends and family often. I think that it is very possible that Sarah did not hear or see anything that happened. All of us felt weird around Ricky, but nothing ever made me think that Sarah was being abused. And for the record, Sharon is only guilty of being in a relationship with an abusive man that convinced her that if she did not help him that he would kill her. I think people need to give her credit for her moment of clarity when she was able to call the authorities despite her fear. I do believe that this book gives a fair depiction of Ricky's childhood and his strange family as I have been told by my own mother. However, Ricky Green was a monster. No one liked him and he made every person he came in contact with uncomfortable by simply being in the room. I find it very offensive to see that Sharon is the one who reported the issue and that she has never been in trouble since (and yes, our parents keep in touch) but people say she got away with something. That is like saying that a woman who was hit by her husband got away with making him mad. For the most part, the author has her facts straight, but lacks in capturing the individuals characters.

My husband is the surviving son of one of this man's victims. He was adopted sometime after her death by a friend of hers and raised. Please understand that stories were changed in this book, as Ricky Lee Green and Sharon were very trusted friends of his mother, that basically turned on her when they were suppose to be helping her.

This book wonders in and out of a deranged killer's psyche.

I bought this book for my wife who loves true crime novels. This book is a True crime novel, no fiction here. It is at times quite graphic in nature. The author at times seems sympathetic to the killers. This book wonders in and out of a deranged killer's psyche. In this book he speaks of his childhood abuse, sexual, physical and emotional. His damaged mind doesn't in any way make what he did forgivable or acceptable. Ricky Lee Green's perversions were fed by Sharon. She craved blood and it didn't take much for him to appease her longing for it. I think that together they made for an explosive combination. The stories he shared may have been to illicit sympathy or simply to explain his thought process during that time period. I find it deplorable that Sharon played the victim card and was awarded a small sentence for her part in the gruesome murders of several people. The book is well written and is well worth the time invested in reading it. It is an old novel and isn't available via electronic download. Which will probably keep most people from reading this book. The author should consider a re-release of this novel as to include an electronic version.

For the past decade, Christian Stadler has investigated long-living corporations—how they grow, adapt, and consistently beat their competitors. He has shared his ideas with executives and students in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the US. Currently, he teaches strategy at the University of Bath. beats 'good to great'

Straight forward, full with practical examples, and still solid! I previously read `Good to Great' and liked it. But this is better. The book has more depth, and feels more honest. Unlike many other business books it does not claim to provide the ultimate answer. This does not mean that the author shies away from having an opinion and backing it up with tons of examples, but he acknowledges that this is his interpretation and due to the nature of the research (case study research) he does not provide proven hypotheses.

So what did I like most? Innovation is a hot topic at the moment and the general impression is that a great idea will make you a millionaire. Great companies in this study were also innovative but what quickly becomes apparent is that the real driver of success is the exploitation of an innovation. This is what separates the great from the good.

In any case, this is a book you should read!

Great book!

Did you ever wonder what the average age of a company is? A mere 12.5 years. In his new book Christian Stadler explains what you need to do to stay around a little longer. He suggests that you should (1) exploit before you explore, (2) diversify into related businesses, (3) manage finances conservatively, (4) learn from the past, and (5) change in a culturally sensitive manner. The book provides capturing anecdotes from 100 year old companies to illustrate these principles. It is an entertaining read which I have no doubt you will enjoy.

A lot of great information about Fire Fighting and Fire Safety.

My four year old loves anything and everything fire fighters. I couldn't resist purchasing a book by an author we love Gail Gibbons. The author does a wonderful job with illustrations that are fascinating and informative along with explanations that a young child can understand. This book does a great job explaining different types of fires and then gives information to the child about what to do in a fire emergency. My son loves this book.

Great kids book

This book is great for showing children (and adults) how different areas fight fires, ie. a barn fire, a dock fire, a building fire. There realistic illistrations. It shows all different equipment used in fighting fires. Good good and recommended for preschool/kindergarten age.

excellent conversation starter

I recommend this book for teachers. I teach kindergartners and found this book to be very informative and engaging for the students. The students had many questions about the vocabulary and the different fire fighting jobs. I also supplemented the book with the internet to show them the real situations described in the book.
