About the Author

Marina Umaschi Bers is a professor in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Child Study and Human Development and adjunct professor in the Computer Science Department at Tufts University. She heads the Developmental Technologies Research group where she studies innovative ways to promote positive childhood development through new learning technologies. She is also the creator of KIBO, a robotics platform for children 4 to 7, which allows young builders to learn programming and engineering without screens by integrating arts and crafts.

Mitchel Resnick is the creator of Scratch, the wildly popular programming language used in thousands of schools and homes worldwide, with nearly 4 million users. He directs the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab and was awarded the McGraw Prize in Education in 2011 for his creative learning technologies.

A well-done guidebook

[[VIDEOID:49255ada1ac70ef5e4b1e7d4eb34acc4]] This is a well-done guidebook to help parents, siblings, teachers, friends and other family members get up to speed quickly with ScratchJr. As someone who already knows and loves Scratch, I was intrigued to see how the essence of Scratch is retained, while providing a simple interface and fewer options. ScratchJr is by no means limited, though. There's tons of avenues for creative expression and coding still available with ScratchJr.

A Fun Introduction for Kids to Computer Programming

This book combines the best of both worlds. It offers kids a physical book that they can read together with a parent or older sibling as well as inspires their creative imaginations about ways to do productive things using a computer. It's important to know upfront, however, that you will need to have a tablet or iPad already on hand in order to download the ScratchJr program, which is a free download. And this book also teaches both parents and kids not to jump ahead when learning something new, as fully understanding and following the directions in chapter one is essential to succeeding with the instructions in the following chapters. We applaud The Official ScratchJr. Book for making learning fun -- who know what future computer programmers and designers will be inspired by its pages!

My 5 - year-old daughter absolutely loves Scratch Junior, and this book has really given us some good tips and fun examples to use in our projects. The book is well-written and engaging, and she has no problem following along. She's able to draw her own characters, record dialog, and move things around to create her own mini movies. Having to sequence the action has really helped with her analytical skills. She is so proud of her work, and it's been fun to see her creations.

Hermoso libro de estudio espiritual que ense�a que el camino hacia el amor y la paz interior es a trav�s del perd�n, Se lo recomiendo a quienes quieran de verdad ver la vida de una manera mas f�cil y bonita de vivirla, que quieran encontrar tranquilidad interior, liberarse de estar criticando y juzgando a otros, a perdonarse as� mismo como perdonar a otros por cualquiera sea la raz�n de lo que le haya pasado o lo que le hayan hecho. Muchas personas famosas que estaban perdidas en las drogas o en otros problemas han logrado un bell�simo nivel de comprensi�n del mundo y se han convertido en portadoras de mensajes de amor y perd�n. Vale la pena estudiarlo, no es f�cil de interpretarlo algunas veces, pero si hace el esfuerzo o busca grupos de ayuda, sera grande la recompensa.

Now most investors and money managers buy stocks with the hope of short-term appreciation. Few buy them with the intentions of receiving dividends. However, when an investor purchases a company's stock, he or she becomes a partial owner in the business. As a benefit of being an owner, an investor receives a part of the company's earnings in dividends.

This book teaches readers about dividends, their importance, what to look for in a dividend-paying stock, how dividends pay for the stock, and much more. The last chapter lists selected stocks with good dividend records. This book is an excellent introduction to dividend investing.

Dividends, the key to investing success..

This is a very good book, and simple to read for even novice investors. A note, the entire book deals only with US listed stocks, so, to buy any of the stocks listed here, you need a broker with access to US markets.

The book covers compounding of dividends, a very, very important subject. It also warns about selecting stocks with yields that are too high, and unlikely to be maintained, or stocks which have a high yield, but are cyclical.

A word of warning: This book is not about returns of 2000% per annum. Dividends are dull and boring. But, they make a good basis for investment.

Excelent book for Beginners - Maybe One Major Mistake

As I said in the title, and many other reviewers have pointed out, this is an excelent book for beginners in the stock market. Even more if you're confused by the array of stocks to buy and techniques to select them.

Having said that, I must point out one major flaw that I think the authors have made when writing the book. In the first chapters they mention the total return that an investor would have received from SP500 in the 70s based in the index itself and with the dividends reinvested.

In my opinion, being the SP500 a total return index, i.e. one in which the reinvestment of dividends is included, the total return should be the same. Nonetheless the idea makes a point in showing the importance of dividend reinvestment policies.

Besides this minor mistake, the book is an excelent read and guide to the stock market.

There are some unbelievable stories here about famous, creative personalities who lived at the edge of society's mores. A Laugh Out Loud Collection Of Breakups You'll Be Glad Were Not Yours

Have you ever had your heart broken so badly you couldn’t get out of bed for days and days? Have you ever said such horrible things during a break-up that you still feel guilty? Or do you live a life where you are perfectly in love but secretly find other people’s displeasure entertaining? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, this book is for you!

Jennifer Wright combines fascinating stories from over a thousand years of history with witty prose and contemporary references. From Nero and Poppaea to the Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor, and Eddie Fisher triangle, I laughed out loud more times than I can remember in my bed, at my desk, and on at least three New York City subway lines.

I cannot recommend this book more. If you have only one takeaway at the end of reading, just know that no matter how bad a break may be, always be grateful that you never dated Norman Mailer. And, on a personal note, I am forever grateful to this book for my extraordinary discovery that Alma Mahler is my spirit animal.

Impossible not to enjoy this book.

Somebody had recommended this book to me but it took me a while to get to it.. I can't believe I let it sit that long.. I think I was under the impression that it would be a "break up" book and the fact that I"m happily married and far beyond those times would make its less interesting to me.. NOT the case.. What an enjoyable book. The author is witty, intelligent, charming and informed. I LOVE those historical tales that aren't necessarily in your average history book and they abound here.. So interesting and soon many Laugh Out Loud moments while reading.. I've recommended this book to all of my friends.

One word: Fantastic.

From the very first page, I was in love with this book. Jennifer Wright has put together an eclectic selection of breakups that makes anyone who has ever had their heart broken feel relatively sane despite the insanity that probably went through their heads while trying to pick up the pieces of their lives after the fact.

Not only does she delve into the historical end of these legends, but she shows another side of them – their under belly, so to speak – that proves even the greatest of the greats have had their hearts smashed to bits and come out the other side… well, OK, not everyone comes out the other side, but that’s just the risk you take when it comes to love.

Between her sense of humor, her wit, and her originality in how she tells a story, Jennifer Wright nails it. It’s not just a great debut from a unique voice, but pretty much the perfect companion for anyone who knows what it’s like to go through a horrible breakup… and that would be all of us. Or at least 98% of us.

About the Author

Michael Raupach is chair of the Institute for Building Materials (ibac), Repair and Conservation of Buildings at RWTH Aachen University, and is actively engaged in diagnosis and design with the consulting engineers Raupach Bruns Wolff. He has been active as the German delegate in the preparation of the European Standard EN 1504, which is the actual basis for concrete repair works, not only in Europe but also in other countries. He has published more than 500 papers and made several contributions to books in corrosion, repair, and maintenance of buildings.

Till Büttner was a research assistant at the Institute of Building Materials (ibac) and is now working at the construction company Eurovia Beton in Troisdorf, Germany, in the field of concrete repair. He wrote his PhD thesis on the lifetime prediction of polymer-modified glass reinforcement of concrete and is active in the field of on-site diagnosis, evaluation of the status of concrete structures, as well as developing concepts for the repair and maintenance of concrete structures.
