Pros:
It gives you kind of a history of a few names, old names that are coming back into style, doesn't give you "baby name overload" because it's all pretty narrowed down, etc

Cons:
Not enough names

We are currently expecting our 2nd baby and are not finding out the sex so we need to find names for both a boy and a girl just in case. I bought this name almanac because it's crunch time and although it's nice to not have to read a million and one names in each alphabet category, I felt there wasn't enough.

Save your time and money!

I was very disappointed with this book. First of all, despite its title it was last updated in early 2015, so it didn't even have any 2015 name charts. The list of boy names in the book is ridiculous. There also include about 40 to 50 German names. I am German and can assure that no more then 10 of these suggested names are actually first names. Of those ten, 50% have not been used since medievel times. A lot of names I would have expected were not in there. So if you are looking for an extremely rare name, this is your book. Otherwise, save your time and money.

The first 70 pages are filled with facts and history about names and celebrity names. Disappointed in the variety and number of the actual names provided. Kind of focused on trendy and current names, not a well-rounded selection. However, I liked that the origins and meanings are provided.

best christian book ever to recomend to non christians!

The shock of your life is a novelized version of what happens after you die. Unlike alot of similer books it is written in a very accessable style that grabs your interest from the first paragraph and keeps you flipping the pages to see what happens next. All of the main ideas are taken directly from the bible and each chapter is even footnoted with the bible verses ref #s listed at the back of the chapter. What really makes this book special is even though it is written in a very entertaining and sometimes humerous style it never trivializes its subject matter and is chock full of interesting ideas and information about heaven and our eternal life there. I have been a christian for over 30 years and studied the bible for most of them but I still found myself saying- wow, does the bible really say that? and looking up the ref# at the back of the chapter to read the full quote. I did not find anything incorrect or taken out of context. What I really liked is the books ability to suck you into the story. It is the one book I actually hand out to my non-christian book reading friends knowing they won't just glance at the first page and politely return it as "not their thing". THe only problem I have had is two of them got so nervous after they read the first chapter (which follows a young non-christian) I had to coax them to keep reading the rest of the book. (They admitted the thought that God actually judges people was really scaring them). However even the scared ones admitted it was really good and one lapsed christian started going to church again!. The book is not all doom and gloom, the descriptions of heaven and eternal life with God are so wonderful and comforting that you want want to move right now!. The book is aimed at teenagers (all three characters are late teens or early twenties) but is equally enjoyable for adults.

Tanks in the Pacific; Who knew?

At the end of the book Mr. Salecker notes that what the public thinks it knows about the Pacific war is usually limited in comparison to the war in the ETO, and what little awareness there is usually involves the Marines. Guilty as charged! Taking absolutely nothing away from the Marines, I was almost totally unaware of the scale and scope of armored operations in the Pacific that are recounted in this book. If you like military history, and especially if you are a "tread head" like me, then you will really enjoy this book. It is a great read, and it passes what I consider to be the real acid test for any book. It made me want to go out and read and learn more on the subject.

I also build WW II model tanks, and this book is an endless source of information, ideas, inspiration, and photos for future armor modeling projects.

Fresh research on an overlooked subject

Mr. Salecker has done a major service to the history of US Army armor by providing us with a complete history of the Army tank units involved in the Pacific campaigns from 1941 thru victory in 1945. This is an area that has been ignored by other publications that cover the history of American tank units. Here we see the desperate battles by under-trained tank crews in the fall of the Phillipines, the use of tanks in the jungles of New Guinea, the landing of tanks on island invasions, the large use of tanks in the recapture of the Phillipines and the final actions on Okinawa. The author looks at the machines used, but the real focus of the book is on the units and the men who actually fought in the tanks. Many veterans contributed stories about combat in places where heat, insects and disease were as deadly as the determined enemy. Well written and easy reading. This volume belongs on the shelf of anybody interested in the Pacific campaigns or the history of American armored units.

This book is a compilation of stories concerning small unit armor actions against the forces of the Japanese Empire during WWII. Pretty good...if you are into war stories. Precious little analysis and evaluation; nevertheless, a work about a subject often given no attention.

Is there a rare disease today?

Is there a rare disease today? I would say that my instructors said NO, there is no such thing. That, is why I bought the older volume. There is always something you could learn from referencing older volumes? The compilation has some insight to older practices. I have not yet fully taken the time to finish the volume. But have learned something valuable already.

Worth more than what i paid for it!

useful guide to rare horses and "zebras"

Although some of the conditions described in this book are not rare, they are not the commonest of diseases, either. I'd call it a guide to rare horse breeds and "zebras." There is not a great deal of information about each disease, but that's fine, because the purpose of this book is to help you think of alternative diagnoses. If you don't think of the diagnosis, you'll never make the diagnosis.
