A comprehensive, well-written guide to SEO today

As with all Dr Williams' books, this is a comprehensive and well-written guide that covers all aspects of SEO today.

The 2016 reference in the title is important, as it shows the book is bang up to date. SEO Is a fast-changing field, with Google in particular changing its mind about what it requires on an annual (or even more frequent) basis.

If you're a webmaster, this modestly priced guide will stop you inadvertently getting your site penalized, and help ensure it is ranked highly in the search engine results for your chosen keywords. Highly recommended.

Having read all of the authors books I found this one well organized and informative. Beginner or mid-level DIY website builders will learn everything they need to know about SEO from this book. I would have given a five star rating but there is quite a bit of duplication from his other books.

I was provided an electronic copy for review. I have taken Andy Williams's online SEO course. I'm not an expert at SEO, but like many desire to more effectively structure my websites so that they are good for human visitors but also good for positioning in search engines.

Andy takes a "white hat" approach to SEO, effectively separating his recommendations from the "black hatters" that are out there. For me, this is of crucial importance. Morally and ethically, I do not believe in misleading, lying, or cheating my way through bumping my websites rankings. As a user of Google/Bing et al, I have often times been so disgusted at "bait click" sites coming up in the top ten ranks when trying to find legitimate information online. Try to find good web hosting reviews without being directed to one of the many bogus affiliate sites who's only goal is to NOT provide you the information you need to understand web hosting providers, but find nothing but an affilliate link stuffed page by an author who's desire is to make money through affilliate programs.

I desire to learn how to use SEO to ensure that I am following ethical approaches towards ensuring I have quality content, authored for my potential visitors, that is also properly structured for maximum effect in rankings.

The thing is, in today's SEO world, it is a war: Google vs. Black Hatters and SEO manipulators. Google is definitely changing the logic of their search engines to weed out the manipulators, the black hatters, and those who use tricks to mislead Google's users from finding relevant search results. As a user, I am happy that google is doing this. as a web master, I still desire to ensure that my site ranks appropriately and can be found among the weeds that are out there.

Dr. Andy's book gives a great background and survey into the evolution of SEO, Google's search engine mechanisms and releases. More than that, it helps maximize your ability to write content in a "white hat" way that ensures you are doing things above board but for great SEO results.

I'd recommend this book, but also recommend his related online course which I think is very effective in combination.

it is clear that Andy has many sites of his own that he's using his own techniques to drive business results for himself. Often times, he provides an oblique reference without really showing specific sites that he has. It's kind of like a painter who's trying to teach you to paint without ever showing you one of his own works of art. It's probably one of the shortcomings, IMHO, of the book and the course. He says he doesn't reference his public/published sites because he's also in a bit of a tete-a-tete with the black hatters who go out of their way to make trouble for him. I take that at face value and his word. I can tell from using his Udemy course and reading his book and newsletter (SIGN UP!) that he has a significant amount of integrity.

I will conclude by saying that the Udemy course and this book have reinforced the essential information on current SEO approaches that work without getting you blackballed by Google. In fact, I would again re-iterate that I just LOVE this approach because he does not promote the underhanded and manipulative "black hat" ways that just smack of unethical approaches.

Grab a copy, sign up for the Udemy course, get started. It's a low investment cost, high-return combo IMHO that will definitely educate and support you in your own SEO efforts to maximize results for your web content.

On top of that, Dr. Andy does make himself available to consult as well. He's eating his own dog food, quite open, and genuinely wants to help you use SEO effectively.

This is a very edicational, easy-to-read book that gives information on the single body of water that the world is covered in. I especially liked all the interesting facts mentioned in this book and it was an informational and short read. Some of the facts that I found interesting were that the ocean has more tha one-and-one-half quintillion (15 followed by 17 zeros) tons of water - that 100 billion gallons of water for each person in the world - , how scientists use echo sounding to find out the physical features of the ocean, the cause of tides in relation to the moon and the sun, and the incredible numbers of life forms in the sea. There are also a couple of pages talking about waves - both destructive (tsunamis, hurricane waves) and normal waves that you see at the beach. The fantastic color photographs are simply breathtaking. This book also has good diagrams and the text is clear and concise.

Considering the wealth of Alfred Hitchcock books produced recently, it's good that Krohn (Hollywood correspondent for the influential Cahiers du cin ma) finds the director's oeuvre inexhaustible. First published last year in France, where it won the Prix de la Critique, this book refutes the director's mythology. Krohn argues that the enigmatic director, once quoted as saying that once the screenplay was finished the actual making of the film bored him, was more open to improvisation and less a slave to the script and storyboard than his public image allowed. Focusing on the Hollywood years, Krohn examines each of the major films and details the progression of the filming, from casting to titling, adding interesting commentary gleaned from Hitchcock's papers. Although the thesis is a bit overstated, the sumptuous photographs alone make this a necessary addition to film libraries. Krohn at work on Hitchcock

First and foremost I shoud state that although I consider myself a film buff, I emphatically dislike the medium of coffee table books. They appear to be just another way to rip off consumers by creating great expensive "packages" with little or no substance. There are of course exceptions to this generality and the best one I've seen so far is this epic retelling by Bill Krohn of the work of Alfred Hitchcock. The Master's centennial has come and gone and with it so has the media hoopla surrounding him that made any interested fan at a loss to find the right vehicle to discover what it was that made him indeed the Master. Now that the dust has settled, Bill Krohn's book on Hitchcock emerges as the undisputed source for Hitchcock's film work. Yes, it is formatted as a coffee table tome but this unprecedented work requires nothing less.Meticulously researched, Krohn has done the unthinkable in his text and graphics by not only debunking the great myth of the director tyranically planning the enitre film in advance of production but uses storyboards and the like to prove this worthy point. Nor does Krohn rely solely on the sometimes faulty memory of the directors collaborators. He substantiates all claims with archival production notes to state emphatically once and for all that Hitchcock's genuis lay not in the pre-programmed myth of his work but his ability to be malleable in the collective art of filmmaking. In short, Bill Krohn's book has made me re-evealute the coffee table book format and more importantly, the work of the great Alfred Hitchcock!

Hitchcock at Work - Not Just Another Picture Book

Anyone trying to decide whether to buy Bill Krohn's new, award-winning Hitchcock at Work should know that this reviewer is particularly pleased to be able to offer an unqualified thumbs up. Using original sources and applying a formidable intellect, Krohn has assembled the kind of "behind the camera" quiltwork that humanizes Hitchcock the great director without debunking the genius of the master's artistry. Real-life events and historic accuracy are the high octane fuel of the prose, and a great selection of finely printed color and black and white photos, from the archives, from the movies and from selected production sources, add depth and texture. Those who know Krohn and his seemingly boundless knowledge of films, directors, writers, actors, camera people and producers, will not be surprised to find in Hitchcock at Work the kind of revelations that make the best biographies compelling reading. The book is big in every way. Hitchcock at Work not only has visual coffee-table appeal, but is also an excellent reference tool. It will surprise and delight real cineastes and casual movie goers alike. In addition, Krohn writes from the perspective of someone who understands how movies are made. His years as a publicist at Fox and the work he did posthumously on behalf of Orson Wells, assembling and producing a completed version of that director's previously unfinished South American movie, along with decades of critical writing for the prestigious Cahiers du Cinema, give him a rare skillset with which to gently and precisely open up Hitchcock's world in ways hitherto unavailable to film buffs and audiences. But Krohn is no intellectual snob. His excellent prose style is clear and readable. If you can only buy one book about Hitchcock, this is the one, whether for its film history, detail and insights, or simply because you want easy access to the many images and visual delights which Hitchcock brought to the screen. Five stars aren't enough! END

An essential book about a great director

In essence, this is a book intended to demythologize Alfred Hitchcock. It has long been a staple of criticism on Hitchcock's films to buy into his assertions that he made his films in his head, via screenplays and storyboards, prior to production, and that the production itself was largely irrelevant. This claim, amazingly, has gone largely uncontested until Krohn's book comes along and shatters it to pieces. One would expect that that sort of demythologization would result in a feeling that Hitchcock's films were, somehow, less great than we felt them to be before, but that is anything but the case. If anything, Krohn's work reaffirms Hitchcock's status as one of the all-time great filmmakers.
A previous reviewer criticized Krohn's book for giving some films more attention than others. Why carp? What's here is great, and it is reasonable to assume that Hitchcock improvised more on some sets than he did on others, and that the sort of documentation one needs to do the necessary research was more in abundance for some films than for others. Therefore, it is unfair to expect a film-by-film rundown. What we should focus on is what IS in the book, not what isn't, and what's here is amongst the most important work ever done on Hitchcock's films.
If you are a fan of Hitchcock's, and enjoy reading about his films as well as watching them, then you owe it to yourself to own this book.

INDRA SENGUPTA is a Research Fellow in British Empire and Commonwealth History at the German Historical Institute London, UK. Her research interests include the production of knowledge on India in colonial India and Europe, especially German Orientalism, and monument-making practices in colonial India. Her current research is on monument-making in colonial India in colonial and metropolitan perspectives. She is the author of From Salon to Discipline: State, University and Indology in Germany, 1821–1914 (Heidelberg, 2005), has edited a special issue called Memory, History, and Colonialism: Engaging with Pierre Nora in Colonial and Postcolonial Contexts, Bulletin of the German Historical Institute London, Supplement 1 (2009).

DAUD ALI is Senior Lecturer in Indian History at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, UK. His area of specialization is early medieval Indian history (c. 300-1200 CE). He has published articles on courtly and monastic discipline in early India, conventions in erotic poetry and courtship, domestic slavery in medieval south India, and conceptions of space and time in imperial Chola inscriptions. He is author of Courtly Culture and Political Life in Early Medieval India (Cambridge, 2004); he has also co-authored, with Ronald Inden and Jonathan Walters, Querying the Medieval: Texts and the History of Practice in South Asia (Oxford, 2000), and edited Invoking the Past: the Uses of History in South Asia (Oxford, 1999).

Good collection of articles

This is a good collection of different papers. It becomes interesting in its last section where we find papers by Peter Gottschalk, Arvil Powell and Margrit Pernau. These papers indicated how traditional ways of relating with Morality, was hybridized with European ways. It would have been more interesting had there been a paper by Sanjay Seth and probably by Arvind Pal Singh Mandair.
Overall it is a good book for someone who is looking for taking the glimpses on subject of Education, especially for understanding the role of architecture in producing knowledge in Colonial India, that is free from political value.

Necessary to better understanding Bach

Apparently Bach may very well have been a cantankerous fellow according to this author. Nevertheless, Bach's music is still my favorite. The author also mentions that not all of Bach's music is excellent and at the genius level, some is humdrum in his opinion.

Now he's here to share his extensive knowledge as TV writer/producer/show runner and professor in this excellent book packed with insights, wisdom, and nuts and bolts information on creating web series. As the TV business rapidly evolves from an insular 5 broadcast network paradigm into a wide open playing field, webisodes are the next frontier of opportunities for writers and producers. This is literally a do-it-yourself book, but Ross Brown guides you through the process every step of the way. I give it an A+ / 5-star review. Buy it. Read it. Cherish it.
